San Francisco Stalking Cases
The San Francisco Police Department's Domestic Violence Response Unit (D.V.R.U.) investigates all felony stalking arrest cases. These cases must fall within the same domestic violence relationship criteria. These cases include repeated offenses (2 or more) of harassing, annoying, following, phone calls, e-mails, court order violations, vandalism, implied threats, direct threats, trespassing, physical altercations, burglary and pet abuse. The DVRU Inspector conducts a thorough investigation and presents each case to the District Attorney for a decision on whether to file criminal charges.
Non-arrest and misdemeanor arrest stalking cases are handled in the same manner as Domestic Violence incidents. The San Francisco Police Department's Domestic Violence Response Unit (D.V.R.U.) maintains a close working relationship with the District Attorney's office, the Probation Department, Parole, the Family Violence Project and Las Casa de las Madres, in order to accurately assess the seriousness of each case and provide maximum advocacy services to the victim.
