Penal Code Section 242
California Penal Code Section 242 provides:
A battery is any willful and unlawful use of force or violence upon the person of another. [Enacted 1872]
A violation of Penal Code Section 242 is punished pursuant to California Penal Code Section 243, as follows:
A battery is punishable by a fine not exceeding two thousand dollars ($2,000), or by imprisonment in a county jail not exceeding six months, or by both that fine and imprisonment.
